Acorn Squash

Dice roasted flesh into small pieces or offer as self-feeding spoon food.

Asparagus

Cut into bite-sized pieces, well cooked. Tips are especially soft and easy.

Beets

Dice into small cubes, roasted or steamed. Mix into grains or serve as finger food.

Bell Pepper

Soft roasted strips or small dice. Can also offer thin raw strips for texture exploration.

Blueberries

Halved blueberries for pincer grip practice. Whole frozen (not fresh) can be offered earlier due to softness when thawed.

Bok Choy

Well-cooked leaves and tender stalks, chopped small. Great in light stir-fries.

Broccoli

Soft steamed florets cut into smaller pieces. Can be mixed into eggs, pasta, or grains.

Brussels Sprouts

Halved roasted sprouts or small pieces. Great as finger food.

Butterhead Lettuce

Soft, tender leaves torn small. The butter texture is easier for babies than crisphead varieties. Introduce with other foods.

Butternut Squash

Dice into small cubes, roasted or steamed. Can be mashed into a thick puree or served as finger food.

Cabbage

Well-cooked strips or pieces. Can be added to soups, stews, or soft stir-fries.

Carrots

Dice into small coins or pieces, well-cooked. Can mix into grains or serve as standalone finger food.

Cauliflower

Smaller soft florets or mashed cauliflower. Mix into other foods or serve as finger food.

Celeriac

Diced, roasted or mashed. Celery root mash is an excellent weaning food.

Corn

Cut kernels off the cob. Lightly cook if not already done. Individual kernels are a great pincer grip food. Do not serve on the cob - a choking risk.

Cucumber

Halved slices or small dice, peeled. Skin can be offered if it's thin.

Cucumber (Lemon)

Small diced pieces, skin on or off.

Cucumber (Pickling)

Small diced pieces, peeled. Introduce with thin skin on once comfortable.

Edamame

Eggplant

Diced roasted eggplant as finger food, or mixed into pasta sauces.

Fennel

Soft roasted fennel pieces as finger food. Add fronds as a herb flavoring.

Garlic

Roasted garlic spread on toast, mixed into soft foods. Raw garlic is too strong.

Green Beans

Cut into bite-sized pieces, well steamed. Mix into soft foods or serve as finger food.

Continue as a flavor ingredient in family meals.

As a flavor ingredient in appropriate dishes.

Kale

Well-cooked, finely chopped. Mix into eggs, grains, or pasta.

Kohlrabi

Well-cooked leek in small pieces. Great in soups and pasta.

Lettuce

Soft butter lettuce or romaine leaves, torn small. Introduce gradually - the texture can be tricky. Best mixed into other foods early on.

Onions

Well-cooked soft onion can be offered as a finger food. Caramelized onion on toast or in eggs.

Parsnips

Dice into small pieces, roasted or steamed. Mash with a little butter for a sweet puree.

Peas

Whole cooked peas for pincer grip practice. Mix into purees, eggs, or grains.

Potatoes

Soft diced potato, roasted or boiled. Mashed potato is a great base food.

Pumpkin

Dice into small pieces, roasted. Can make pumpkin pancakes or muffins.

Radishes

Steam or roast until soft - raw radish is too firm for babies. Cooking mellows the spice significantly. Slice into rounds or small pieces.

Raspberries

Whole raspberries for pincer grip - they naturally break down. Fresh off the cane is a wonderful sensory experience.

Snap Peas

Soft steamed pods cut into pieces, or fresh peas popped out for pincer grip.

Spinach

Finely chopped wilted spinach mixed into other foods. Baby can start picking up soft cooked pieces.

Strawberries

Quartered or diced fresh strawberries. Large ones can be offered as a whole spear.

Summer Squash (Yellow)

Small diced pieces, steamed or sautéed.

Sweet Potato

Dice into 1/2-inch cubes, roasted or steamed. Can also mash and spread thickly on toast strips.

Swiss Chard

Soft wilted leaves, finely chopped. Mix into other foods.

Tomatoes

Quartered cherry tomatoes or diced larger tomatoes. Skin can stay on now.

Turnips

Dice and roast or steam. Can be mashed or served as finger food.

Watercress

Wilted, finely chopped, in soft foods or eggs.

Zucchini

Dice into 1/2-inch pieces, lightly steamed or sautéed. Soft enough to squish between fingers. Great mixed into soft grains.
